Join us December 13, 6:30–8pm on Zoom for the launch of a series of events this fall and spring, Social Work and Social Movements, to explore the historical and current relationship between social work and social movements, to learn about how social workers have been engaged in social movements, and to develop skills and opportunities to engage in current organizing and advocacy efforts.
The first session will outline the history of how social work has related to social movements and the challenges and successes. Panelists will draw on their own experiences of organizing and participating in social movements and share how they believe social work can fit into social movements. Panelists include Jaime Estades, Columbia and NYU Professor; Justin Harty, Social Work Professor at ASU; and Diana Melendez, PhD Candidate at the CUNY Graduate Center.
This series is a collaboration between The Action Lab for Social Justice at the Columbia School of Social Work, The Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at the Columbia School of Social Work, and the Center for Justice at Columbia University.
