In 2024, our partners at Opportunity Scholars at Center for Effective Public Policy hosted the first ever Maine affiliate of the Beyond the Bars Conference in Portland, Maine. They are back this year and seeking proposals for workshops.

Theme: SOLIDARITY JUSTICE: Collective Care, Safety, and Generational Healing in a Digital World
Our conference on Thursday will focus on the theme of gender justice. Our definition of gender justice includes the intersectional gendered experiences of all people and we encourage people of all genders to submit proposals and participate in these vital conversations.
Friday’s will focus on the theme of youth justice. Similarly, we welcome proposals from all people on the topics of youth and young adults, but will prioritize proposals that include voices of those with direct experience in the juvenile justice system.
Proposals that include facilitators who have direct lived experiences and those that connect strongly with the theme of the conference will be prioritized.
