The short documentary 'On Our Block' screened at the People's Film Festival in Harlem over the weekend and won the award for Best Documentary Short.
'On Our Block' highlights our work with youth, including our Justice Ambassadors Youth Council and Project Restore Bed-Stuy and how participants in these programs brought together two rival street crews to decrease gun violence in their community and address historical tensions.
The short doc was a part of a Mental Health Talkback Series during the festival. Two of the film's main subjects and CfJ participants Jason Bostic and Wesley Jeffries participated in the talkback. The documentary was created by Astrid Useche and Chloe Barlow and originally premiered at the Columbia Journalism School DocFest in December 2024.
