Beyond the Bars Maine brings together local and national activists, advocates, community leaders, policymakers, academics, and the public to gather and engage in important conversation around best practices, coalition building, and initiatives aimed at addressing mass incarceration.
Led by those directly impacted by the criminal-legal system and supported by the Columbia University Center for Justice and the Opportunity Scholars initiative at the Center for Effective Public Policy (CEPP), this two-day event includes:

Beyond the Bars Maine: Transformation through Innovation
Saturday, October 5, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at The Roux Institute at Northeastern University in Portland
A one-day conference event featuring plenaries and breakout sessions on topics that include in prison education, fair-chance employment, re-entry, policy, and reform.
