This past weekend the Beyond the Bars fellows participated in the annual closing retreat at the Action Lab Retreat Center in Ossining, NY. Each year fellows come together to celebrate their hard work throughout the fellowship and further build community and connections as the fellowship comes to an end.
This year, fellows participated in solidarity projects with Black Alliance for Just Immigration, JMac for Families, Center for Community Alternatives, and the Freedom Agenda around issues concerning the child welfare system, closing Rikers, harsh sentencing practices, and immigration.
This incredible group of students and community leaders now have a home in our robust network of Beyond the Bars alumni and we know they will continue to do incredible work to end mass incarceration and criminalization.
