The Justice Beyond Punishment Collaborative (JBPC) has been meeting for over two years to develop the narrative and thinking of those active in the movement to end mass incarceration so that together we can make an impact on broader society’s thinking by and about those who have committed and/or are labeled as violent, and those who have survived violence. Out of these collective conversations, the Collaborative has launched the Justice Beyond Punishment Campaign, a narrative and culture change campaign working to end state violence and the reliance on punishment, criminalization, and incarceration as the primary responses to interpersonal violence, and to advance more just and effective approaches to safety and justice.
Through the campaign, JBPC has produced resources, including a podcast, zine, political education workshop, and more, to support other organizations seeking to address violence in their communities. On Friday, October 27, JBPC invited those organizations to an official campaign launch and convening to share the conversations and resources that have come out of the Collaborative and to collect input and insight from attendees.
Visit the newly launched Justice Beyond Punishment website to learn more about what was shared on Friday and ways to support the campaign. Please also join us for an upcoming docutheater performance Beyond Punishment: Stories of Healing and Justice.
